City of LaGrange Employees & Community Partners Pick Up Twenty Tons of Litter for Annual Cleanup

The City of LaGrange shut down non-essential business for half a day Friday, April 22nd to pick up litter throughout the main thoroughfares. Together, hundreds of city employees and community members picked up roughly twenty tons of litter.

The City of LaGrange is grateful for community partners who participated in Friday’s annual event including the LaGrange-Troup Chamber of Commerce, Troup County 4-H, Civilian Conservationists of LaGrange, LaGrange Youth Council, Hometown Family Medicine and many more volunteers.

City Manager Meg Kelsey began this litter clean-up campaign in April 2018 hoping to send a message to the community that the City of LaGrange is seriously about cleaning up the community and leading by example. The April 2018 event was so well-received with employees, citizens and elected leaders, the city began hosting monthly cleanups throughout the city. Since 2018, the city is proud to have partnered with many different community groups, businesses, schools, colleges and individuals in leaving LaGrange better than we found it. The slogan was inspired by the comments by City Councilman Nathan Gaskin who said in a city council meeting, “My mom also told me to leave things better than I found it.”

The city’s next scheduled monthly litter cleanups include:

–        Saturday, May 7th, 8-10AM in the parking lot of the Health Department, 900 Dallis Street. The city is partnering with DASH and the LaGrange Fire Department.

–        Saturday, June 4th, 8-10AM in the parking lot of Hometown Family Medicine, 1698 Vernon Road. The city is partnering with Hometown Family Medicine and the LaGrange Fire Department.

To participate in any of the city’s litter cleanups – just show up. We will provide all of the supplies.
