The City of Dallas is introducing a Downtown Dollars program to incentivize the community to shop local during the holidays and throughout the year. Downtown Dollars is a gift certificate program sponsored by the Dallas Downtown Development Authority and Dallas Main Street Program. Downtown Dollars will be sold in $10 increments and act just like a gift certificate that can be redeemed at participating businesses in the Main Street District. Customers can look for the Downtown Dollars sticker in the windows of participating businesses.
The Downtown Dollars program is a successful program seen in many cities across the state including Thomasville, Bowdon, Carrollton, Macon, Washington, Nashville, Americus, Moultrie, Rome, Dalton and more. Downtown Dollars has sold over $220,000 Downtown Dollars per year. The program is a dollar-for-dollar match which means that business owners will receive 100% of the Downtown Dollars redeemed at their business. Downtown Dollars make the perfect gift for Christmas, birthdays, teacher appreciation for any person who loves shopping local.
The program was created to help support the current retailers we have in Downtown Dallas as well as incentivize new retailers to open on and around Main Street. “Within my time working in downtown development, I have seen the Downtown Dollars program be successful in so many communities around the state. I believe this program is a great way to help support our current businesses and is a great tool to bring new businesses to Downtown Dallas,” says Dallas Main Street Manager Shannon Gordon.
The community can purchase Downtown Dollars beginning December 1, 2022, at the Business Development Office located at 200 Main Street in Downtown Dallas and online at mydallasga.com They will also be available for purchase at the Christmas Tree Lighting on November 26th. Downtown Dollars can be redeemed at businesses located in the Main Street District. The Main Street District map can be viewed online at mydallasga.com.
