In Bowdon you’ll find a treasure trove of antiques. Store owner Jane Pennington who is a passionately curious antiquer is opening her brick-and-mortar store Blair Waller Antiques on December first. The antique, vintage, and collectibles shop takes pride in its research and authentication efforts and was previously located inside of Timeless Treasure Antiques Mall in Oxford, Alabama.
In moving to Bowdon, Jane says,“The hope is to make Blair Waller Antiques part of the antique trail down here in west Georgia.”
If you’ve shopped with them previously in Oxford, don’t worry because there will be new and old antiques and dealers at the Bowdon location, although Jane says that the new location will “have a whole different look…a different flavor.” Jane expects the new look, and the bright and sunny disposition, to grab the attention of passersby, getting them to think, “‘Well, what is that?’” and encouraging them to “…really come in and look and see what we have that’s different.”
Still expecting to discover exciting finds, Jane says, “I’ve just got an abundance of things.” There will be Japanese vases, fine china, primitive pieces, depression glass, clothing and accessories, candles, soaps, and just in time for the holidays – Christmas decorations. Additionally, Jane herself will be bringing in antique furniture to the shop. There will also be “dealers that repurpose the furniture and just do a wonderful job.”
Jane is excited to be in the area and is not only appreciative of the “very welcoming” city of Bowdon but also of the help of RBG Leasing (the owners of Piggly Wiggly) and especially Jan Gibbs. She says, “They’ve been wonderful to me. They’ve done everything I’ve asked for with the building.” She continues, “We love it out here. It’s really kind of a neat little town, you know?”
Jane wanted to honor her family and so put two family names together to create the Blair Waller Antiques name. Waller comes from her mother-in-law and Blair from her grandmother, Stella Jane Blair, who is a descendant of Francis Preston Blair. He was a journalist and an unofficial advisor to President Andrew Jackson and before his presidency, President Abraham Lincoln. Blair’s home was the Blair House in Washington D.C. which is currently the President’s guest house that is furnished with antique furniture and art.
