The LaGrange Police Department received the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) Meritorious Gold Award at the recent GACP Winter Conference.
This award is presented to agencies that have maintained State Certification for over 20 years. LaGrange is one of only thirteen agencies to receive this award.
The award was presented to former LPD Chief Lou Dekmar and Lt. Sanders by GACP President, Chief Alan Rowe. Chief Dekmar retired Friday.
LPD received its eighth consecutive State Certification from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, or GACP, in 2021. LPD was initially certified in 1998.
State Certification is a voluntary program that the agency elects to participate in to improve its overall performance and to continue to strengthen the connection with the agency and the citizens they serve. This program is a set of standards that when followed, incorporate contemporary professional thought and practices into Georgia law enforcement.
LPD also received its 8th CALEA Accreditation in 2021. To receive CALEA Accreditation, the agency must demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence in policy and practice. The accreditation is accomplished through a highly regarded and broadly recognized body of professional standards. The agency is required to maintain continuous compliance during the four-year assessment cycle. The LaGrange Police Department first received accreditation in July 1999.
