Over the past weeks, land has been cleared along Commerce Drive south of the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins store alongside Highway 61. This has led to public speculation as to what may be planned for that vacant lot.

The property is owned by Jeff Matthews who is seeking to recruit three new restaurants to the area.

Matthews also is planning to extend the road between Chick-fil-a and RaceTrac west to South Street behind the old Georgia State Patrol site.

This is not the only project underway for this area of town. Carroll County is in the process of designing a new fire station to replace the one now on Industrial Boulevard. This larger, updated station will be located on the corner of Highway 78 and South Street, across from Jefferson’s Restaurant.
