Villa Rica has filled two new staff positions for the city: it’s first-ever full-time public works director and a marketing specialist for the city.
Hal Burch, originally from upstate New York, began work last month as Public Works Director, filling a full-time role that had previously been shared by two other departments.
Burch grew up in a small town in upstate New York and managed a successful car repair and custom motorcycle shop before transitioning into a new career in public utilities and waste management. Burch previously worked as director of public works for the City of Temple.
In his new role in Villa Rica, Burch will oversee sanitation, maintain the city’s streets, roads, and sidewalks, and supervise upkeep of city vehicles. These jobs were previously split between the city’s community development and utilities departments.
Burch said that he has developed three core values over the course of his career: safety, service, and efficiency.
“That means creating a safety-first culture in our workplace, while providing exceptional customer service in an efficient manner,” Burch said.
Also joining the city last month is Madison Mahoney, who will be serving as marketing specialist for the city.
Mahoney grew up in Douglas County and graduated in May 2021 with a marketing degree from the University of West Georgia.
Previously, she served as marketing coordinator for an engineering and consulting firm. She specializes in social media campaigns and will be responsible for bringing public attention to events and promotions being planned for Villa Rica.
“I am excited for this next step in my career and to be a part of this team here with the City of Villa Rica,” said Mahoney. “I look forward to what is coming with this role. “
