Nearly 2.2 billion people in the world lack access to safe water. On Saturday, April 15, Southwire’s Project GIFT is partnering with Water Mission for its second-annual Walk for Water – raising awareness and funds to help address this global issue.
The event will take place at the company’s corporate headquarters in Carrollton, Ga. Check-in will begin at 9 A.M. (EDT), followed by the event at 10 A.M. (EDT).
This year, Southwire’s goal is to raise $25,000 in support of Water Mission. Every dollar raised will go directly back into Water Mission’s efforts in Honduras and Mexico. Southwire and Water Mission have worked together to designate funds raised through this event to these two areas, as Southwire has operations and an existing Giving Back presence in both countries.
According to its website, Water Mission is a non-profit organization that strives to end the global water crisis by bringing clean, fresh water to those in less fortunate circumstances. Water Mission also works to secure safe water access after disasters occur, which is critical to prevent the spread of waterborne illnesses.
The Walk for Water event raises awareness for the global water crisis, and at the event, participants will walk a course that is roughly the same length as the daily route that many people around the world take to get fresh water each day.
“This event is such a unique way to connect with this cause. I personally take for granted how fortunate I am to be able to walk into any room in my home with a sink and access clean water to take care of my family,” said Kristian Whittington, manager of Giving Back. “Walking with filled buckets in hand is a powerful physical reminder of what others are experiencing every single day to gain access to water that isn’t even clean or safe to use in most cases! With the help of this incredibly generous community, we’re hoping to do all we can to make a positive impact on this global issue.”
In addition to the walk in Carrollton, facilities in Bremen, Ind., Denton, Texas, York, Penn., Canada and Honduras are hosting walks in their communities as part of a large signature effort across the company to get involved with Water Mission.
Online registration for the Walk for Water is open. Participants may also register at the event, but we cannot guarantee that your preferred t-shirt size will be available at that time. A virtual walk option is also available. For more information about the walk and how your family and friends can get involved, please click here.
Project GIFT’s Walk for Water is made possible thanks to the generosity of many community sponsors including the University of West Georgia, Times-Georgian, Servpro, New Leaf Marketing, Gradick Communications, Phoenix Wood Products, Heart Wood Products and Tisinger Vance.
