All are invited from the West Georgia region to help keep prescription drugs out of the environment on Saturday, April 22 for DEA Drug Takeback. The drive thru drop off is located at the Newnan Police Department directly off Bullsboro Drive at 1 Joseph-Hannah Blvd. No personal information will be collected. Those living in all counties in the west Georgia region are welcome to participate.
In conjunction with Keep Newnan Beautiful, Newnan Police Department, Drug Free Coweta, and Coweta Force, DEA Drug Takeback looks to tackle several issues,
Properly disposing of medications is important for many reasons.
1) Human safety. Excess medication poses a risk for people of all ages; can lead to an addiction or cause an unintended overdose.
2) Clean water supply. Even with the most advanced water treatment plant, there is no technology that can effectively and efficiently remove dissolved medications from the water supply. For this reason, it is EXTREMELY important for medicine to be disposed of in a contained way. Never flush medicine down the toilet or pour it in a creek, stream, or lake.
3) Reducing waste. Bringing your excess medications to the DEA Takeback keeps it out of the landfill. The DEA uses a contained incinerator that effectively destroys the medication and keeps it from sitting in the landfill.
Residents should leave the prescription drugs in original containers and just mark thru or tear off their personal information. The event will be from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and those with questions or concerns can call 678-673-5505
