Get Your Essentials from the Square

Serena Dockery, owner of Essentials on the Square, opened her new business mid-March on Adamson Square in Downtown Carrollton, bringing convenience to all nearby.

Essentials on the Square has all the goods one would expect from a convenience store such as snacks like chips and candy along with soft drinks. However, Dockery’s store can also be a one-stop shop as she has obtained her alcohol and tobacco license and carries single beers, cigarettes, and vapes in addition to paper goods like toilet tissue and paper towels.

“We are just trying to serve the community,” Dockery said.

Dockery has lived in Carrollton since she was 18 and for over 26 years with her spouse, Tammy, with whom she discovered the space her shop now occupies. “We were sitting on one of the park benches, looking around, talking, saw the empty buildings, and wondered what would go well there. We saw people carrying bags from different stores, and that made our decision,” she recounted. Both have a business partner that many will recognize in the community, Desiree Duke.

Dockery said her customers have “been excited” when coming into the shop since her Essentials on the Square is in a convenient location. She said the landlord was also excited that she chose a convenience store, especially for residents in the apartments above the store and nearby. Dockery has even had some neighboring business owners come in to shop for some necessities for their own businesses.

In the coming weeks Dockery plans to add a few more finishing touches to Essentials on the Square as she prepares for a grand opening that she encourages customers to be on the lookout for.

When she is not busy with her new store, Dockery continues with additional endeavors like her small cleaning business and her full-time job in Douglasville. Essentials on the Square can be reached by phone at 770-316-4681 and is located at 204 A Adamson Square, Carrollton, GA. Click here to be redirected to their Facebook page.
