The Psalm 139 Project, a pro-life ministry of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, in partnership with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, has donated an ultrasound machine to Sav-A-Life Lanett/Valley, Inc. in Lanett, Ala., marking the third machine gifted by the state mission board.
The ultrasound machine and training was completely funded by the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions and will be used to serve women and families in Lanett.
A dedication ceremony was held July 28 from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. EST at the center located at 711 North 4th Ave. Lanett, AL 36863. Representatives from the following organizations were in attendance: ERLC; Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions; Alabama Citizens Action Program; and East Liberty Baptist Association.
“It is a tremendous joy to be able to partner again with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions in this third lifesaving ultrasound placement,” said ERLC’s Chief Financial Officer Bobby Reed. “Sav-A-Life and their network of care providers are making a difference in the lives of families throughout Alabama. It is through the generous contributions of Southern Baptists through their local churches that these ministries from urban centers to rural communities are changing lives across the state. It is such a privilege to assist them and serve our churches in this way.”
Sav-A-Life was established in 1985 and since that time has helped thousands of women and families in Lanett, Ala. The city has a population of 38,000 and serves residents of both Alabama and Georgia as the city is located along state lines. The center’s trained peer counselors serve clients with factual information on pregnancy, abortion, adoption, STD’s and other related information. All services are free and confidential.
“In this past year, we have seen an increase in the number of women who are coming to our center for pregnancy testing who are undecided about the future of their pregnancies,” said Machelle Hall, executive director of Sav-A-Life Lanett/Valley, Inc. “We know how important ultrasound is in the decision-making process when a mother is undecided about what choice she will make. The gift of this new ultrasound machine from the ERLC, The Psalm 139 Project and Alabama Baptists lifted a very heavy burden. For that, we are eternally grateful.”
One hundred percent of financial contributions designated to the Psalm 139 Project go toward purchasing ultrasound machines and providing training for workers. No ERLC Cooperative Program resources are used for these machines.
