State reports Carrollton High School graduation rate at 91%

On Oct. 10, the Georgia Department of Education officially announced the statewide graduation rate for 2023. Carrollton High School’s Class of 2023’s left a strong legacy with a posting of 91 percent.

CHS consistently surpasses the state average, which stood at 84.4 percent this year.

Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus noted that it is prudent to recognize the overall preparedness of the graduates and what their post-secondary plans entailed.

“CHS consistently posts a strong graduation rate and we take great pride in every student reaching this significant milestone,” he said. “Successfully completing a K-12 education in Carrollton City Schools is significant. We are also eager to see what our graduates are doing after they leave the halls of CHS.”

Of the Class of 2023’s 420 graduates, there were 262 recognized graduating with honors — 207 honor graduates and 55 honor graduates with distinction. The class consisted of 11 IB Diploma students and seven Georgia Scholars. After graduation, 61 percent planned to attend a four-year institution, 16 percent planned to attend a two-year institution, 4 percent planned to enter the military, and the remaining 19 percent had plans to enter the workforce.

In addition to the 68 percent of students who earned the Georgia HOPE Scholarship, the Class of 2023 was awarded $9 million in college scholarships. The value of HOPE is estimated at more than $11.5 million for students who maximize all of their credit hours.

Ian Lyle, CHS principal, expressed his pride in students and teachers for consistently upholding high standards.

“Despite our growing numbers, our commitment to excellence is unwavering, as evidenced by our consistent performance in graduation rates year after year.”
