West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is pleased to announce the opening of a new Pearson Vue GED Testing Lab on its Murphy Campus, further enhancing its commitment to providing accessible educational opportunities to individuals seeking to earn their GED. Testing in the new lab is open to the community as well as current WGTC adult education students.
Pearson VUE is the global leader in computer-based testing for IT, academic, government, and professional programs. The company manages the world’s largest, most secure test center network which is comprised of over 5,000 centers in more than 175 countries.
“Previously the closest GED testing center to Haralson County was over 20 miles away,” WGTC Dean of Adult Education Rebecca Wheeler said. “With the addition of the Pearson Vue lab in Waco, prospective GED test-takers in West Georgia have a convenient, local testing site, eliminating the need for lengthy commutes and making testing more accessible for working adults and those with busy lives.”
In addition to the lab in Waco, WGTC currently has testing centers at its Coweta and Douglasville campuses. Wheeler has future plans to open labs in LaGrange and Carrollton.
One of the most significant barriers that adults face when looking into earning their high school equivalency diploma is the cost of testing. Last year, the Georgia General Assembly passed, and Governor Brian P. Kemp signed into law, a bill establishing the HOPE High School Equivalency Examination Grant Program. Eligible Georgia residents can apply for an award of up to $200 to cover the cost of the GED exam. More information on the HOPE HSE Grant program can be found at HSEtest4free.com
