Bowdon Elementary School wins $10,000 for Student-Led Community Project

Representatives from Delta Community and Star 94 presented Bowdon Elementary School with a $10,000 award

Bowdon Elementary School was awarded $10,000, the grand prize in the seventh annual Give Back Giveaway, organized by Delta Community Credit Union and Atlanta radio station Star 94. Twenty-two schools entered this year’s contest, which invites metro Atlanta students to organize service projects that positively impact their communities.

For their service project, Bowdon elementary students made plans to create a garden to feed their community. Each grade participated by selecting seeds, planting them and taking care of the garden. Over the summer, their student garden produced more than 70 pounds of crops, and they shared the food with the community through the school’s “Little Free Pantry.”

Jenn Hobby from Star 94 and Delta Community surprised Bowdon Elementary students with a check presentation at their school.

Four additional schools also received awards. Freedom Middle School placed second and was awarded $2,000. Lovinggood Middle School, Campbell High School, and Newcomer Academy were named finalists and each awarded $1,000.
