Three schools in Carroll County are among just 47 across the state to be recognized as leaders in the field of school emergency preparedness by receiving the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness.
Central Elementary School, Mt. Zion Middle School, and Whitesburg Elementary School were individually recognized for improving emergency preparation needs of their buildings through extensive planning and risk mitigation efforts.
“Carroll County Schools has worked very hard over the last four to five years to strengthen our procedures, processes and plans as it relates to the safety and security of our students and staff,” Assistant Superintendent of Administrative and Support Services Terry Jones said. “I’m elated to see three of our schools recognized by the Georgia Department of Education for their work in this area.”
The Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness recognizes schools who are taking efforts to be prepared for the unexpected and fulfill state guidelines for emergency management. The Seal of Preparedness results from the collaborative efforts of the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency as they take strides to better prepare our schools and commend schools for going above and beyond to increase school safety and minimize risk factors.
One hundred eighty-four schools applied for the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness through an online application that opened in September. The application required specific documentation of drills, planning and collaboration practices throughout the school year, in addition to the submission of an approved school safety plan.
