The University of West Georgia recently named Maria Marsh as its director of government and external relations and deputy chief of staff. With a robust background in political communications, Marsh is positioned to ensure the continued enhancement of UWG’s advocacy efforts.

“I’m honored to be chosen for this role, and I am excited for the opportunity to work alongside some great colleagues who are committed to the betterment of an already excellent university,” said Marsh. “I am even more excited to not only contribute to some amazing conversations and initiatives that are already happening all around this community, but also to start some new conversations and create new partnerships in the future.”

Marsh graduated from Louisiana State University in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in political communications. She began her career with the Georgia Association of REALTORS Advocacy Division, where she excelled as a political communications specialist and fundraiser. Additionally, she serves on the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism, known as Georgia Serves, promoting community service and volunteerism statewide.

By building strong relationships with state leaders and key external stakeholders, Marsh aims to amplify UWG’s voice. Her dedication to establishing UWG as a first-choice university underscores her commitment to enhancing the university’s impact on the local community, region and state.

“I look forward to working closely with the university’s leadership and stakeholders to join the efforts of UWG’s robust government relations strategy,” Marsh added. “It’s an honor to be part of such a dynamic institution, and I’m committed to supporting its growth and success by ensuring that UWG continues to matter to people and make a significant impact on our community, region and state.”

Marsh’s vision and proactive approach are expected to drive significant advancements in UWG’s external relations. Her efforts will play a crucial role in positioning the university for success.

“Maria is a remarkable addition to our team,” said Sarah Powell ’13 ’17, UWG’s assistant vice president and chief of staff. “Her background in political communications and her proven track record and work at the state capitol makes her uniquely qualified for this role. We are confident that her leadership will enhance our advocacy efforts and strengthen our external relationships.”
