Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane!
It’s a … crane!
Crews at Tanner Health’s Carrollton hospital are taking construction to new heights, hoisting the tallest crane ever erected in Carroll County.
At a soaring 150 feet in height, the “tower crane” at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton will facilitate construction on the hospital’s ongoing three-story, nearly 97,000-square-foot expansion.
The project will yield the hospital 50 additional inpatient beds, helping to meet the community’s growing needs and improving access to inpatient care. It’s the most significant expansion to the hospital since it opened a new emergency department and surgery center in 2013.
Tower cranes are modern construction cranes known for being able to reach significant heights, offer a wide range of motion and the capability of lifting tons of concrete, steel and large machinery.
The crane will be anchored in place near the emergency department at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton for most of the project’s anticipated 24-month duration.
During the project, Ambulance Drive will remain closed to thru traffic. Emergency drop-off is available from Clinic Avenue. Access to the Clinic Avenue Parking Deck, the ambulance bay and other parts of Tanner’s Carrollton campus can be accessed from Ambulance Drive by approaching from Dixie Street or Professional Place.
Tanner has expanded its free valet service to ensure patients and visitors have easy access to the facility, adding 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week valet to the emergency department entrance.
Free valet service is also available at other places on campus, including the John H. Burson III, MD, Atrium along Dixie Street, the West Georgia Specialty Center and the Tanner Health Pavilion.
