The City of LaGrange inducted the new 2024-2025 LaGrange Youth Council members into office at the LaGrange City Council meeting on Tuesday (8/27) evening.
The youth council held its first meeting Tuesday and heard more about local government from LaGrange Mayor Jim Arrington and City Manager Patrick Bowie. During the regular LaGrange City Council meeting, new members took the oath of office and the entire group
signed the Code of Civility. Throughout the year the group will learn from City staff, elected officials, and community leaders to learn about leadership, community service, and local government.
“We are incredibly excited about this year’s group of students,” said LaGrange Youth Council Advisor Adam Speas. “The Mayor and City Council understand the importance of investing in our youth today to improve tomorrow, which is why they decided to expand this program to 32 students. It’s an incredible program to be part of, and I’m excited to see what these young leaders will bring to our community.”
The LaGrange Youth Council is an advisory board composed of junior and senior high school students from area high schools. The local youth provide advice and counsel to the local governing body. The Youth Council gives our local youth a more formal role in the local decision making process offering real-world experiences with elected bodies.
