Central High School senior, Isabella Jackson, has been named a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students are being recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry.
Students entered the National Merit Scholarship Program, a nationwide competition for recognition and awards conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last October. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation was established in 1955, a time in which there was concern that the United States was lagging behind in the Cold War scientific race, but the public was indifferent to rewarding intellectual accomplishment. In response, the National Merit Scholarship Program was created to identify and honor scholastically talented American youth and to encourage them to develop their abilities to the fullest.
Isabella Jackson plans to pursue a career in architecture. “We are extremely proud of Isabella, she is one of the best and brightest students in the Class of 2025. We are proud of her for receiving this honor and national recognition,” stated Central High School Principal Mr. Kelly Edwards.
