Carroll EMC Prepares for Potential Hurricane off the Gulf Coast

Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative (EMC) is monitoring the development and movement of a potential hurricane off the Gulf Coast. Forecasts anticipate the system to make landfall as early as the end of the week, affecting Georgia and its EMCs. The cooperative has a long history of dealing with storm-related outages and is prepared should outages occur across its seven-county footprint.

In preparation for such situations, Carroll EMC employees recently participated in an annual disaster training day, where they worked through storm scenarios to test the effectiveness of the cooperative’s emergency response plan. In addition to extensive employee training, Carroll EMC maintains a large network of electric cooperatives, contractors and vendors throughout the state and region that are willing to help with repairs and supply materials should the need become that great.

The cooperative encourages Members to ensure their emergency kits are stocked with updated essentials including water, batteries and medications. Make sure to charge electronic devices prior to a known storm and have an alternate power source, like a generator, if you have medical, life-sustaining equipment.

Download Carroll EMC’s free Outage Pal app to easily report an outage, see a comprehensive outage map and receive notifications of the status of power at your home. Remember to stay clear of any downed power lines, as they might still be energized. For more information and preparedness tips, visit carrollemc.com/stormcenter.

During any type of storm, Carroll EMC will maintain communications with its Members and local community through a variety of channels, including social media, radio, website and more.

Carroll EMC is a Member-owned cooperative providing electricity to approximately 50,000 homes and businesses. The co-op serves Members in Carroll, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk, Floyd and Troup counties. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
