Located in the heart of Carrollton, Lavender Layne Head Spa is a serene haven for head rejuvenation, providing a unique experience that blends luxury with scalp care. For owner Amy Lee Kimbrell the journey to opening this one-of-a-kind head spa began with a personal moment that changed her life and led her to create a space dedicated to helping others with scalp issues.
With 14 years of hairstyling experience and seven years as a national balayage educator, Kimbrell was no stranger to the intricacies of hair care. But when her mother was diagnosed with cancer in September of last year and began chemotherapy, Kimbrell’s focus shifted. After shaving her mother’s head due to hair loss, she was asked the question that sparked a new passion. “Now, you know how to make this grow back fast, right?,” her mother asked. Kimbrell’s drive to answer that question led her down a path of research into hair regrowth, particularly after chemotherapy. “I had been helping clients with COVID-related hair loss, but I thought there had to be more to learn about hair growth after chemo,” Kimbrell said. Researching scalp health brought her back to something she had learned about 14 years earlier, head spa services. Though she was intrigued by the concept at the time, there wasn’t a market for it then. But today, with self-care becoming a top priority for many, Kimbrell saw an opportunity to bring this luxurious service to west Georgia.
Lavender Layne officially opened its doors in July 2024, after months of model training and preparation. What makes the spa so special is its focus on creating a space where clients feel at ease, pampered, and understood. Initially Kimbrell envisioned the head spa as an extension of her existing salon; however, she quickly realized that the demand for her services required more space and flexibility. “Women wanted to come together with their friends, which meant I would need two beds. That idea led me to create the spa,” Kimbrell said. As head spa services are relatively new to the United States, there wasn’t an established protocol for treatments, so Kimbrell took it upon herself to develop her own system. She also faced difficulties acquiring the proper equipment, which required ordering specialized tools. Despite these obstacles, Kimbrell was able to customize the necessary equipment and establish a spa that caters to her clients’ unique needs.
At Lavender Layne, clients are treated to a Japanese-inspired head spa experience infused with Southern hospitality. The spa addresses scalp issues such as dandruff, psoriasis, thinning hair, migraines, stress, and anxiety, while also providing relaxation. “The service itself is like a facial for the scalp,” Kimbrell said. “It’s filled with aromatherapy, rainfall therapy, and scalp massages using jade combs and other implements.” In addition to scalp care, clients are treated to micro facials and hand massages, all while nestled in cozy, warm beds. For Kimbrell, the joy of running Lavender Layne goes beyond offering a luxury service. Watching her clients relax and experience relief is one of the most fulfilling parts of her work. “We love seeing people be able to relieve so much stress during a service. Being able to watch our clients’ bodies begin to relax is so fulfilling—we love when they fall asleep!” she said.
Looking ahead, Kimbrell envisions Lavender Layne becoming a hub for scalp concerns and hair loss in west Georgia. She’s even taking steps to become a Trichologist, a specialist who bridges the gap between a cosmetologist and a dermatologist. “We have so many future plans for the spa,” she said. The support from local businesswomen has been particularly heartwarming for Kimbrell. “The community of Carrollton has been so welcoming. It has been such a great thing for other woman business owners to reach out to offer support and excitement,” Kimbrell said, noting the encouragement from peers like Sidra at Sweet Peas and Amy at Downtown Medspa. Social media and word-of-mouth have also played an integral role in helping Lavender Layne gain traction. For anyone interested in starting a spa business, Kimbrell offers advice, “Be unique, find your niche, and take lots of education in both your industry and business. Always remember to serve your community and remember each person who walks through your doors is a gift from God.” Lavender Layne offers online booking through their website.
