2024 ACT results released in October showed that the Coweta County School System’s 2024 graduates overall outscored Georgia and U.S. graduates on the college entrance exam.
The school system’s average composite ACT score was 21.4 among its 2024 graduates, compared to an overall national composite score of 19.5 and a Georgia composite score of 21.2.

“We are seeing Coweta students continuing to outperform the state and nation on the ACT,” said Dr. Chase Puckett, Coweta County’s Director of Instructional Services. “We anticipate that we’ll continue to see strong performance and overall increases as we focus on literacy and math across the district,” said Puckett.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods noted that 2024 was the eighth year in a row that Georgia students beat the national average on the ACT.
“The class of 2024 continues to make us proud here in Georgia – from beating the nation on both the SAT and ACT to achieving an all-time-high graduation rate for our state,” said Woods. “It’s encouraging to see that investing in academic recovery, despite the challenges of the last several years, has paid off for our students and their futures. I offer my congratulations to the class of 2024 and their teachers, parents, and communities who made this possible.”
Coweta’s ACT average performance this year also joins other recently-released academic indicators – including SAT performance and graduation rate – in which Coweta students outperform national and state averages.
All scores used to calculate this year’s averages are based on 2024 high school graduates who took the ACT at any point during high school. Only the last ACT score is included if the student took the ACT multiple times.
“Much like the SAT, the ACT is now reporting data by senior graduating class” and now uses annual reporting methods comparable to annual SAT reporting, said Puckett. “And when you look at all three of our Coweta high schools, all three high schools are showing that they’re holding their own in ACT and SAT performance, in very similar ways, as well as showing improvement in graduation rates, and it underscores that our principals and our teachers are doing what they need to do to be sure our students are being supported and challenged,” he said.
