An exciting expansion awaits Newnan Crossing early next year!
Chala’rosi (pronounced kah-LAH-roh-see) Float Studio will be your one-stop shop for relaxation. Not only will you be able to experience a full-body reset via sensory deprivation flotation tanks, but the Studio will also offer chiropractic services, red-light therapy, cold plunges, and saunas. Guests can simply walk in to choose which services interest them and relax for as long as Chala’rosi’s doors are open!
The float studio’s Greek namesake means “relaxation” or “slack”. To add to the clean, Mediterranean feel, Kristi Westlake, one of Chala’rosi’s owners, intentionally chose warm, golden hues so clients can start feeling at ease as soon as they walk through the doors.
“Our serene atmosphere helps improve your mood and emotional well-being while you unplug and focus on self-care,” she shares.
Kristi’s husband and joint Chala’rosi owner Jason Westlake reveals that although construction is still underway, he’s excited to see the vision unfolding.
Peachtree City locals may recall the Chala’rosi Float Spa & Sauna on Highway 74. As the Newnan spot opens, it will retain many of the Peachtree City’s services with the addition of chiropractic services. Dr. Anthony O’Brien, who has been practicing since 2019, joined forces with the Westlakes to create Newnan’s Chala’rosi Float Studio, truly a full-body experience.
“I was a massage therapist before I was a chiropractor,” O’Brien shares. “And when I was in chiropractic school I learned more about the neuropathic side [of things] and how we can incorporate all therapies to work in tandem with each other.”
For decades, researchers have studied various aspects of sensory deprivation on the human body. As early as 1967, Yeshiva University in New York worked with NASA to see what changes would take place once subjects could not hear, see, taste, or smell anything and how their overall motor function would work out in a non-gravity environment. More recently, some studies have suggested that floating in a pod or pool saturated with epsom salt seems to relieve some subjects from chronic pain and even induce better sleep and help athletes recover from intense workouts.
In fact, the Westlakes and Dr. O’Brien met while practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and bonded over their recovery methods. The intense sport has garnered much attention for its complicated techniques and fantastic fights, which has led many participants to explore various recovery methods. Chala’rosi, however, will have many of those methods combined in one studio, making it not only your one-stop recovery shop but also a way for you to experience a new therapy that may work for you.
The studio will be about 1700 square feet and have two float pods. For those who may be claustrophobic – have no fear. These pods stand at about 9’ x 7’ x 4.5’ so you won’t feel like you’re in a coffin. Participants can float for as long as they need to. Typically, patients will float for an hour to feel the positive effects of relaxation and a stilled mind.
I asked Dr. O’Brian what effects he’s seen in his own patients and friends who have experienced the float pods at Chala’rosi’s main location in Peachtree City.
“My goodness, that’s a loaded question!” he laughs. “It’s good to have a reset and have your mind go into a meditative state. There [are] healing benefits for your fascia and even organ function. I would also venture to say it helps with depression. The weightlessness [experienced in the floatation pods] can help improve circulation and lower your heart rate for a little while, too.”
For more information on how float therapy may be able to help you, this recent, although not-yet-peer-reviewed article may help you understand the subject a bit better.
The Westlakes plan to open their studio early next year, so keep your eyes peeled for updates on their Facebook and Instagram! For more information about the therapies offered and pricing, visit their website at www.chalarosi.com/newan. Walk-ins will be welcome.
The studio will be located at 597 Bullsboro Drive, Suite B, in Newnan. You can email the Westlakes or Dr. O’Brian at [email protected]. The City Menus will share construction progress photos on our social media, keep watching!
