Three Carroll County Schools high school students have been selected to attend Georgia’s Governor’s Honors Program this summer.
From Central High School, Addison Smith was selected in the field of Agriculture. From Temple High School, Jack Jordan was selected in the field of Chemistry. From Villa Rica High School, Ava Porter was selected in the field of Music: Jazz/Trumpet.
“Congratulations to Addison, Jack and Ava for their recognition by the Governor’s Honors Program,” Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Jennifer Shirley said. “They have all worked very hard to earn this prestigious recognition and world-class learning experience this summer. We are very proud of our students for being recognized among the best in our state.”
GHP is a four-week residential summer enrichment program – to be held this year June 15 through July 12 on the campus of Georgia Southern University – for gifted and talented rising high school juniors and seniors. Students who attend public, private, and home schools are eligible for nomination in one of 20 subject areas. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom, designed to provide students with academic, cultural and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators and leaders. Georgia’s Governor’s Honors Program is the second oldest program of its kind in the country.
