New “Books on Wheels” Service Launched for Heard County Meals on Wheels Participants

The Three Rivers Regional Commission, Heard County Meals on Wheels, and the West Georgia Regional Library System are excited to announce a new partnership bringing library services directly to Heard County Meals on Wheels participants. The “Books on Wheels” pilot project will deliver books along with meals, offering a new source of entertainment and enrichment for Heard County Meals on Wheels participants.

Current Meals on Wheels participants through the Heard County Senior Center can request books by phone or complete a reader profile for personalized selections. A library card is required and can be obtained through the Heard County Public Library in Franklin. Books will be delivered in a special bag with their Meal on Wheels, checked out for 30 days with a 30-day renewal option, and can be returned to the Meals on Wheels delivery driver.

This initiative aims to explore the sustainability of combining meal and book delivery services.

‘Three Rivers is thrilled to partner with WGRLS to provide our seniors with library resources along with the meals provided by the Heard County Senior Center. This further strengthens aging safely in place with an enhanced quality of life.’ -Emily Rogers, Deputy Director of Aging, Three Rivers Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging.

‘I am very excited about this new opportunity to partner with organizations in the Heard County community to deliver resources to homebound patrons. Our libraries open up the world to our patrons, and I’m happy that we can help provide this service outside of our library walls.’ -Stephen Houser, WGRLS Director
