Councilman Childs receives the certificate from GMA representative Niles Ford at the City Council meeting (6/10)
LaGrange City Councilman Leon Childs was honored at the City Council meeting Tuesday (6/10) for completing the Municipal Leader Community and Workplace Culture Certificate Program. This program, offered through the Georgia Municipal Association, is a prestigious and comprehensive 8-month leadership development experience designed specifically for municipal officials in Georgia.
This certificate program equips city leaders with the tools and strategies to foster positive workplace cultures, engage ethically with the public, and promote long-term community prosperity.
Over eight months, Councilman Childs participated in intensive, full-day training sessions once a month, covering a wide range of vital topics such as collective leadership, emotional intelligence, financial ethics, public safety, economic and community growth, stakeholder engagement, human resource management, and a final Capstone Project that applied what he learned directly to a real-world issue or opportunity in his community.
“This program was both rigorous and rewarding. It required dedication, participation in every module, and active collaboration with a cohort of nearly 80 municipal leaders from across the state, creating a network of shared knowledge and support,” said GMA Member Services Consultant Niles Ford. “Today, we not only recognize Councilman Childs for completing this journey but also for his commitment to effective governance, ethical leadership, and community impact. We’re proud to have a leader like him representing the City of LaGrange with excellence and integrity.”
