Whether it’s a car crash, a medical emergency or a natural disaster, communities count on their first responders to act quickly to save lives when an emergency strikes.
To help ensure that first responders in west Georgia are always prepared to answer the call, Higgins General Hospital in Bremen recently donated dozens of emergency trauma kits to the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) to be installed in patrol cars throughout the county, allowing officers to render aid in medical emergencies.
“Trauma kits are critical because they provide our officers with essential supplies we need to help people when they need it most,” said Sheriff Stacy Williams with the HCSO. “We have been working for years to get kits like these because we know they can make a difference in an emergency. We are grateful for this donation because it equips us to serve our community better.”
In situations requiring immediate medical attention, law enforcement may respond alongside or in coordination with local emergency medical services and fire departments.
Law enforcement officers are trained to be effective in a host of emergencies, and they are often among the first to respond on the scene.
Supplies, such as trauma kits, arm them with additional tools they need to deliver medical care and assist EMS teams when they arrive on the scene.
Higgins General Hospital donated a total of 40 trauma kits, which come with a variety of medical supplies, allowing officers to quickly address bleeding, breathing and airway issues, as well as a host of other life-threatening emergencies.

Each kit is packed with standard first-aid items, such as emesis bags (also known as “barf bags”), cold packs, and gauze, as well as more advanced medical supplies, including tourniquets, coagulating agents, hydration fluids and specialized bandages for wounds and injuries.
To make the donation possible, Higgins General Hospital partnered with Ambucare EMS and West Georgia Ambulance to assemble the kits. The EMS teams will work together to keep the kits restocked and ensure they’re ready for the next emergency.
Sheriff Williams, HCSO Patrol Captain Bobby Mullenix, Ambucare Director Mitch Golden, and West Georgia Ambulance Director Amy Jerome, met recently with Jerry Morris, the senior vice president of hospital operations at Tanner, and Gary Thomas, the vice president of campus and support services at Tanner, who presented the group with its first delivery of kits for distribution.
Higgins General Hospital, a part of Tanner Health, made this donation as part of its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities it serves.
