A new restaurant may be moving into a familiar spot in Peachtree City. J. Alexander’s is being considered as the next tenant for 100 Market Place Blvd., the former home of Smokey Bones. The proposal is scheduled to go before the city’s Planning Commission tonight, with updated building plans and exterior improvements up for discussion.
J. Alexander’s is a contemporary American restaurant known for its wood-fired cuisine, polished service, and refined atmosphere. The menu features a variety of made-from-scratch dishes, including steaks, seafood, entrée salads, and burgers, along with an extensive wine list and signature cocktails. The restaurant has two existing locations in Georgia—Dunwoody and Peachtree Corners—making the Peachtree City proposal its potential third in the state.
The architectural redesign, submitted by Fusion AE, includes a refreshed entrance, updated stone veneer accents, and new colors for the existing metal canopies. These changes aim to modernize the building’s look while staying consistent with local design standards.
The site is zoned General Commercial and falls within the Highway 54 Corridor Overlay District, which adds an additional layer of architectural guidelines. These rules call for visually engaging facades, consistent design details on all sides, and clearly defined entry points.

While the front facade of the proposed design falls slightly short of the required 80% primary materials—coming in at 77% due to a section of EIFS replacing brick—staff believe the plan still meets the intent of the city’s development ordinances. The side and rear facades remain fully compliant, using 100% primary materials like brick and stone.
Key materials in the redesign include Coronado Stone in Texas Cream, EIFS in Soft White by STO Corp., and Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black for accent brick. The metal canopies will stay but receive a new finish in Copper-Cote, and the trash enclosure will be upgraded with new Matte Black gates. Staff noted these selections closely match the approved palette outlined in the city’s design guidelines.
It’s important to note that signage depicted in the submitted drawings is not part of this review. Any signs will require a separate permit and staff approval based on the overlay district’s requirements.
There are no budget implications tied to the proposed changes. If the Planning Commission gives its approval, J. Alexander’s could soon bring a high-end, chef-driven restaurant to this well-traveled part of Peachtree City, offering a fresh use for the vacant building.
Renderings and elevation drawings have been submitted as part of the request, providing a visual of the potential transformation at 100 Market Place Blvd. The city’s decision will determine whether the project can move forward. To learn more click here.
