The LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club is a program from Georgia Forward, a nonprofit organization managed by the Georgia Municipal Association. This initiative empowers mayors to lead literacy efforts in their communities and encourages reading among young children through books and events.

The mission of the LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club is to provide quality books and resources that the whole family can enjoy together while strengthening the literacy skills of children ages two to ten.

“Reading aloud to children is crucial for their development. It fosters language skills, expands vocabulary, boosts literacy, and strengthens the parent-child bond, ultimately leading to a lifelong love of reading. That’s why the LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club is so important,” said Get Troup Reading Executive Director Kim Myers. “This program promotes literacy through fun, free, family-friendly events. We are proud that we were able to create fun memories with our Mayor, all while celebrating literacy with our children.”

“It’s an honor to be part of these events for our young people. I truly enjoy reading to them and seeing the excitement as they follow along in their own books,” said Mayor Jim Arrington. “All four of the events were well attended, and it was wonderful to see families coming together in the name of literacy. A big thank you to Get Troup Reading and the Rotary Club of LaGrange for helping make this initiative possible.”
