The rear parking area behind the northeastern quadrant of Adamson Square is being considered for significant improvements as part of ongoing downtown enhancement efforts.
Currently, the lot includes approximately 80 parking spaces and is one of the most popular parking areas downtown. However, city documents note that while the lot is convenient and well used, it lacks visual appeal and clear identification as public parking. Spaces are unmarked, pavement is in need of maintenance, and there are no sidewalks connecting the lot to surrounding businesses. Limited lighting and visible back-of-house service areas also make the space feel uninviting, particularly in the evening hours.
Proposed improvements would maintain nearly the same parking capacity, approximately 79 spaces, while transforming the area into a more welcoming gateway to downtown. The concept features a simplified 90-degree parking layout, ADA-accessible sidewalks connecting to nearby alleyways and pedestrian pathways, and improved signage highlighting access to the square for visitors.
Additional enhancements could include street trees and the use of pervious pavers to help address stormwater runoff. The overall goal is to elevate the standard for rear parking areas while improving walkability and strengthening the connection between the lot and Adamson Square’s businesses.
