The University of West Georgia is inviting the community to step back in time with a unique, hands-on experience at the Waring Center for Public Archaeology.
Taking place on Saturday, April 25, the “Below the Surface” event will give attendees the opportunity to uncover the rich history buried beneath the UWG campus — from ancient hunting camps to the days when cotton was king and beyond.
This family-friendly event offers a variety of interactive and educational activities designed for all ages. Guests can try digging like an archaeologist, explore behind-the-scenes tours, and even play one of the oldest known games in Georgia. Additional experiences include using ancient hunting tools, weaving a Cherokee basket, making and painting pottery, and meeting archaeologists and historians who bring the past to life.
With something for everyone, this immersive event is a great way for families, students, and history enthusiasts to connect with the region’s deep cultural roots.
The event will take place at the Waring Center for Public Archaeology at UWG, located just past Dine West on Innovation Drive, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Admission is free.
