Carroll EMC Promotes Layton to Senior Vice President

Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative (EMC) announces the promotion of James Layton as Senior Vice President (VP) of Engineering and Technology. 

Layton joined Carroll EMC in 2006 as a System Engineer, where he focused on system planning. Over the past two decades, he has taken on increasing levels of responsibility, most recently serving as VP of Engineering and Technology.

In his new role, Layton will continue to provide strategic direction and oversight for the cooperative’s Engineering, Information Technology, Metering, Apparatus and Control Center departments. His work includes electric system planning, grid modernization, operational technology, business analytics and reliability initiatives that support Carroll EMC’s long-term growth and service excellence.

“James has played a key role in advancing Carroll EMC’s technology and innovation over the years,” said Jerome Johnston, Chief Operating Officer for Carroll EMC. “As technology continues to evolve and play a critical role in our industry, I’m confident in his ability to lead these efforts and help us better serve our Members.” 

Layton earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Georgia.

He and his wife, Kari, reside in Carrollton with their two children, Levi and Leah. The family attends and serves at Southern Hills Church. Layton is also active in the community, serving as Secretary of the West Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center Board of Directors.
