For the third consecutive year, the Carroll County Board of Education has approved a full millage rate rollback for Carroll County property owners, voting at a called meeting on July 31 to reduce the school tax millage rate from 16.077 mills to 15.809 mills. This marks the fifth consecutive annual millage rate cut from the school board, bringing the millage rate down from nearly 18 mills in 2021.
When compared with the five similar surrounding districts, Carroll County’s property tax levy per student is the lowest of the six districts, indicating that the district efficiently uses funds across its 23 school campuses. In May the district received a four-star rating for financial efficiency from the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, indicating responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources. Of Georgia’s 180 school districts, only 15 districts scored higher. Systems with high College and Career Readiness Performance Index scores and low spending per student earn the highest scores.
“We are pleased to be able to lower the millage rate again this year,” board chairman Kerry Miller said. “This rate decreases the burden on local taxpayers while supporting the needs of children in our community.”
