The Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation has received its largest endowed gift in the organization’s history, named in honor of the Class of 1982.
The Carrollton City Schools Education Foundation has received its largest endowed gift in the organization’s history, which will fund a $10,000 annual scholarship for a Carrollton High School senior.
The Class of 1982 Breaking Barriers Scholarship was established to support a graduating senior from Carrollton High School each year whose financial circumstances may create barriers to pursuing postsecondary education.
With the goal of expanding access to educational opportunities for students enrolling in an accredited four-year college or university, the award recognizes students who demonstrate determination, resilience, character, and a strong commitment to their future goals.
This scholarship aims to “break barriers” by alleviating the financial burden for students who would not otherwise be able to pursue and complete their postsecondary education, creating opportunities that have an impact on their lives moving forward. Recipients may be eligible to renew the scholarship annually, for up to four years of total scholarship support. Current recipients will receive an application to apply for the next academic year. To be considered for renewal, students must remain on track to earn a bachelor’s degree and maintain good academic standing.
“This scholarship is a perfect example of why telling our story and sharing the impact of our foundation’s work matters. When we share how these funds are opening doors and creating opportunities for students, it gives others the chance to see the difference they can make. This scholarship came about because an anonymous donor saw that impact and was inspired to create a lasting legacy for students in our community,” said CCS Education Foundation Executive Director Brooke Mobley. “We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and hope it reminds our alumni and community that they, too, can leave a legacy—whether by opening a new fund, creating a scholarship or supporting one that already exists. Every gift has the potential to change a student’s future.”
The CCS Education Foundation Class of 1982 Breaking Barriers Scholarship will award its first scholarship this April at the annual scholarship breakfast.
