What does a home mean to you? Whether it’s simply the place you live or the people you call family, home is a concept that we can all relate to, even as it evolves in our minds and hearts. The University of West Georgia Theatre Company presents heartwarming plays and musicals that explore what it means to be “home.” The “Home is Where the Heart Is” season kicks off in September with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Simon Stephens, based on the young adult novel by Mark Haddon. An exploration of the mind of a neuro-divergent teenager, the five-time Tony Award and six-time Olivier Award winning play is a poignant and funny tale of acceptance and love. Then, in November, our student-devised musical, Songs & Stories: A Cabaret will explore the various ideas of home both theatrically and musically. Rounding out our season will be the biting satire Ain’t No Mo’ by Jordan E. Cooper, which explores the challenges of home with biting satire (strong language and themes of race, identity, and injustice), and will be presented in early March 2027. To wrap up our season, in April 2027, we’ll be performing Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical Into the Woods.
UWG Theatre’s “Home is Where the Heart is” season will bring joy and laughter while also asking us to consider how we think about home and who we include in our homes. As we grow from infancy to adulthood, our idea of home often changes. In the two plays and two musicals in the “Home is Where the Heart is” season, these ideas of home are explored to their fullest. The characters and situations in each of these productions will charm, befuddle, and amuse the audiences, and will make them want to come back for more!
Performances for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will be held in the Townsend Center Mainstage Theater September 30—October 3, 2026 at 7:30pm and Sunday, October 4 at 2:30pm. Songs & Stories: A Cabaret: Home will run in the Townsend Center Dangle Theater November 11-14, 2026 at 7:30pm and Sunday, November 15 at 2:30pm. Ain’t No Mo’ performs in the Townsend Center Dangle Theater March 3-6, 2027 at 7:30pm and Sunday, March 7 at 2:30pm. Please be aware that Ain’t No Mo’ contains strong language and themes of race, identity, and injustice. Lastly, the classic Into the Woods runs April 21—24, 2027 at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 25 at 2:30 in the Townsend Center Mainstage Theater. Tickets for all UWG productions are $15 for the general public, $10 for Seniors, and $5 for students when they show their school ID. All productions will have a Community Preview the Tuesday before each opening night. Tickets will be discounted to the general public for the Community Previews.
