West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) hosted its inaugural Alumni Association Mixer last month, marking a new chapter in the college’s ongoing efforts to strengthen alumni connections and create meaningful opportunities for graduates to remain engaged with WGTC.

Held at Dream City Brewing Company in Carrollton, the event provided alumni an opportunity to reconnect with fellow graduates, instructors, and staff while learning more about the college’s continued growth. Heaven in Your Home catered the event, and both businesses are owned by WGTC alumni, highlighting the impact of the college’s graduates within the local community.

The mixer is part of a broader initiative to establish an active WGTC Alumni Association focused on regular communication, networking opportunities, and increased alumni engagement. A quarterly newsletter was started to keep alumni updated on upcoming events, career opportunities, college news, and volunteer opportunities, while also sharing graduate spotlights that highlight the varied career paths alumni have taken since graduation.

“It was important for us to take the time to reconnect with our alumni,” said Kayla Sterling, Annual Giving & Alumni Development Specialist for WGTC. “Our alumni and their success tell the story of WGTC better than almost anything else. They show where our programs can lead, the careers our graduates build, and the impact WGTC continues to have long after someone leaves the classroom.”

WGTC alumni have remained connected to the college in various ways, including serving as guest speakers, sharing career experiences, and joining advisory committees. A stronger alumni network gives current and prospective students examples of what life after WGTC can look like for them. Getting to hear from graduates who have built careers, started businesses, continued their education, or taken other paths can make those possibilities feel much more attainable.

Building on the success of the inaugural event, WGTC has plans to hold two alumni mixers annually, one in the fall and another in the spring. The college also hopes to expand future alumni events in other counties within its service area, providing more opportunities for WGTC graduates to reconnect and engage with the college.

WGTC is currently recruiting volunteers for the Alumni Association Advisory Board, which is expected to launch in early 2027. The board will meet quarterly to discuss programming, events, ideas, and feedback, giving members a direct voice in shaping the Alumni Association’s future.
