Big Joe’s is located in the bowling alley shopping center as you are leaving Newnan, heading towards Peachtree City. Don’t let the Bar portion of the name throw you off. Big Joe’s is way more than a bar. It is a unique restaurant that happens to have a bar. The menu has a wide variety of options, but there was not a separate gluten-free menu. The bar has a wide variety of craft brews, wine, and mixed drinks. Also, the bar actually had drink specials; I’m not talking about a featured drink; I’m talking about drink specials from $2.00 to $5.00. The wait staff is very friendly and will help with any recommendations. We started off with two appetizers. Wings and loaded fries–hey, we were at a “bar.” The wings were good, and the loaded fries were a solid choice. Here is where the food gets interesting, the main entrees. The waitress recommended a dinner special, grilled Mahi Mahi with a crab stuffing, and red pepper aioli sauce. Big Joe’s is not a bar, Big Joe’s is an excellent restaurant.

The Mahi Mahi was grilled to perfection, flakey with grill marks, and the red pepper sauce had a sweet taste but also enough acid to cut to the sweetness of the roasted red peppers. The other meal was a surf and turf. The ribeye was cooked exactly to order and the surf portion will take you directly to the beach. The surf portion was a creamy cheese sauce with shrimp. The roasted garlic mashed potatoes were a hit as well. Only criticisms were that the vegetables had too much butter and the steak portion was slightly small. There is a child’s menu and the overall atmosphere is kid friendly. There is also outside patio dining. I will definitly go back and am looking forward to my next visit. Overall: 4.2 out of 5 and $$$
