(Carrollton, Georgia – September 23, 2014) On Monday, September 22, 2014, Villa Rica Elementary held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new construction project. The project included a new media center, gymnasium, administration office area, music and art classrooms.
Dignitaries attending included Superintendent of Carroll County Schools Mr. Scott Cowart, Carroll County Board of Education Members Dr. Jon Anderson, Rob Cleveland, and Chris Gammon, Carroll County Schools Assistant Superintendent David Goldberg, Chief Financial Officer James Fulford, Maintenance Director Mike Beers, Mayor of Villa Rica Jay Collins, Villa Rica High Principal Dr. Adam Herring, Sand Hill Elementary Principal Carla Meigs, and Ithica Elementary Principal Brad Corbett.
The ceremony opened with the pledge of allegiance and then a moment of silence to honor the memory of the Villa Rica Middle Student who passed away this past weekend. Student Kenzie Elsberry discussed the history of the Villa Rica Elementary site. Superintendent Scott Cowart, Board member Rob Cleveland and Mayor Jay Collins spoke to the audience about the new construction and what it means to the Villa Rica community. The Villa Rica Elementary Chorus under the direction of Geoffrey Harden provided two musical selections. Following the chorus performance, Villa Rica Elementary students and dignitaries cut a ribbon to open the new gymnasium and renovations. Villa Rica Elementary Principal Charles Johnson closed the meeting by thanking all for attending and their on going support for Villa Rica Elementary and the Villa Rica Cluster.
