Evan Horton has been named as the Coweta County School System’s Director of Student Services, beginning July, 2015.
Horton is currently the principal of East Coweta High School, where he has served since 2012. In his new position, Horton will oversee all student discipline and student code of conduct matters, school system disciplinary policies and disciplinary student tribunals. He will oversee and coordinate programs dealing with student attendance, positive behavior interventions and support, and will oversee the school system’s alternative schools. Horton will also serve as a liaison between the school system, School Resource Officers and law enforcement generally.
Horton is a 17-year educator, and began teaching in 1998 at Maxwell Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama before coming to Coweta County in 1999. He taught civics and history and coached basketball, baseball and cross country at Newnan High School, then at Northgate High School, where he also served as an assistant football coach, head basketball coach, and assistant athletic director. Horton became an assistant principal at East Coweta High School in 2006, and became the ECHS athletic director in 2008. He has served as ECHS Principal since 2012.
Horton earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education and Human Performance Studies from the University of Alabama in 1998, his Master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy State University in 2005, his Leadership certification from the State University of West Georgia in 2006, and an Education Specialist degree in Administration from Georgia College and State University in 2009.
