For the 17th year, The Courthouse will be filled with Christmas cheer and good music, provided by our local school students. The holiday concert series known as Christmas Concerts In The Courthouse will begin this Wednesday at 12:15pm when the Fairplay Middle School Chorus takes the stage to begin this wonderful county tradition. The concert series runs through December 18th. Below is the press release we got from the county which includes the schedule of performances.

***17TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERTS IN THE COURTHOUSE – A DOUGLAS COUNTY TRADITION!***

For the 17th consecutive year, the Douglas County Courthouse Atrium will be filled with the wonderful sounds of children singing during the holidays!

Weekdays between Wednesday, December 2nd and Friday, December 18th, groups from schools in Douglas County will perform beginning at 12:15 p.m. on the Grand Staircase of the Courthouse Atrium.  Their music will resound through the 165-foot high Atrium, filling the Courthouse with the sounds of the season; 21 groups will perform this year.

The concerts are a holiday tradition.  They give schools an unique public venue to show off the musical talents of their students which help them develop their musical and performance abilities, as well as their self-confidence.  The concerts will be broadcast live on dctv23, and simulcast live on www.CelebrateDouglasCounty.com.  A link to the taped broadcast of each individual concert will afterwards be posted on dctv23.com for many replays!  Every Douglas County public school receives an invitation to perform and a performance time is scheduled for every chorus that wishes to perform.  The concerts will also be replayed on dctv23 each weekend with the 12:15 p.m. concerts on Saturday and the 12:45 p.m. concerts on Sunday.

Seating is available in the Atrium, and the concerts are open to the Public with free admission.

Douglas County Chairman Tom Worthan stated that “we are pleased and proud to be able to present the talents of Douglas County youth for all of our citizens to enjoy.  It is wonderful to hear children’s voices lifted in song, and their spirits lifted in celebration.  The Christmas Concerts in the Courthouse are enjoyed by thousands of our citizens in person and on dctv23 each year, and are a wonderful way to celebrate the most joyous of seasons.”.
