Chief Michael Mansour and Sergeant Hunter Ethredge on behalf of the Villa Rica Police Department were honored today with a plaque for the agency’s third place finish in the 2016 National Law Enforcement Challenge (NLEC). Both are in attendance at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in San Diego.
The NLEC focuses on the traffic safety issues of impaired driving, occupant protection, and speed awareness. VRPD’s distracted driving training program at Villa Rica High School contributed in large part to the agency’s third place finish among departments with 21-50 sworn officers.
The agency’s “ALIVE” program — Advanced Learning In Vehicle Education – is a two-day program whereby students receive classroom instruction that includes traffic safety, the proper use of seat belts, the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and distracted driving. That is followed up with students getting behind the wheel for a myriad of hands on activities that would challenge even the best of drivers. The program allows the students to interact with officers in a fun, educational, personal setting on important driver safety information.
