Newnan residents may soon have a destination to take their furry friends for a day in the park. The City of Newnan is currently planning to construct a dog park along Casey Road near Harpers Farm.
The city plans to build Harpers Farm Dog Park on an 8.33-acre parcel of land that is divided by a roundabout. City Landscape Architect Mike Furbush says part of the land would likely be sold to help fund the project.
“There is about a 2-acre parcel that is on the other side of the roundabout, which would be sold for residential development, which could help fund the dog park,” said Furbush.
City Council members discussed the project at a recent retreat. Furbush says the council looked at different proposals for the project, and decided on the Harpers Farm area for the park.
“It will probably have a dog park for large dogs, one for small dogs, and a playground or recreational area,” said Furbush. “There would be pavilions and a restroom, as well as general seating areas. There have been some discussions for possibly a splash pad for the dogs. There will also be walking trails around the property.”
Furbush said city officials are in the process of making revisions to the concepts that had been approved during the council retreat. The project could be funded from SPLOST dollars that were allocated in the City of Newnan’s budget.
