Central High School’s Best Buddy Program volunteered and assisted local elementary school athletes in Newnan, Georgia at the Special Olympics bowling event. Four elementary school sent nearly 80 athletes to the bowling event.
Community Based Instruction teacher, Ms. Christine Hanson, established the Central High School chapter of the Best Buddy Program with the help of Central High School junior, Heidi Anderson. Though the chapter was started in late September, the organization boasts 43 members to-date. The Best Buddy Program is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The Central High School club provides opportunities for students to interact and
volunteer in a variety of settings with disabled and non-disabled peers, matched
together.
