The Troup County Board of Commissioners declared a local state of emergency in Troup County during Tuesday afternoon’s commission meeting, effective immediately.
The recently enacted declaration includes the following conditions: the Troup County Emergency Management Agency activates the Emergency Operations Plan, and the following sections of the Troup County Code be implemented: Section 62-78 (a) Authority to waive procedures and fee structures. This will allow the Board of Commissioners additional flexibility to make speedier decisions regarding functions of the county during the uncertainty of the current circumstances associated with Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
The decision to implement the local state of emergency is a precautionary measure to ensure the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Troup County. At this time, many functions of the county have implemented changes and restrictions due in large part to the current Public Health state of emergency for the State of Georgia as well as the existing Statewide Judicial Emergency. The Troup County Board of Commissioners will continue to assess the rising concerns associated with COVID-19 with support and advice from the Troup County Emergency Management Agency and will provide updates as they arise.
The declaration states that the local state of emergency in Troup County shall continue until the conditions requiring the declaration are abated.
