The University of West Georgia will confer 715 degrees to its summer 2020 graduating class during a virtual commencement celebration on Saturday, July 25, at 3 p.m. The event will be broadcast on UWG’s Livestream page.
Dr. Brendan B. Kelly, who began his role as president of UWG in March, looks forward to celebrating UWG’s summer graduates.
“With the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community our highest priority, the University of West Georgia has developed alternative plans for Summer Commencement 2020,” Kelly said. “Recognizing that this event represents a significant achievement for each of our students and their loved ones, we plan to create a memorable experience that celebrates each graduate.”
The broadcast event is not meant to serve as a replacement for the Summer 2020 Commencement ceremony. Graduates will be invited to an in-person ceremony once circumstances allow. More details on that event will be provided at a later date.
“Our promise to our Spring 2020 class was that they could return to campus and attend a traditional in-person commencement ceremony when it was safe to do so, and we’d like to extend that same promise to the Summer 2020 graduates,” Kelly said. “We will announce plans for an in-person ceremony soon. We are excited to celebrate these graduates in July, and even more so when they can return to campus as alumni.”
Khareem Leslie, Student Government Association president, will also speak at the commencement. All graduates’ names will be announced by Dr. Brad Yates, chair of the Department of Mass Communications.
