Central High School FFA student Addison Smith took top honors winning 1st place in the Georgia State Floral Design FFA Career Development Event. The state competition was held at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia. Addison was accompanied by her teachers, Mr. Clarke and Ms. Bridges for the event.
The purpose of the competition is to stimulate interest, encourage proficiency development, and recognize excellence in students of floral design through the agriculture education curriculum. Students in the event were asked to make one floral design arrangement using materials provided by the competition organizers. Students were given 30 minutes to complete the arrangement which could have included bridal or attendant bouquets, body/personal flowers, or water based or wet floral foam designs. In addition to creating a floral design, student contestants completed a 25-item multiple-choice written exam. Addison was awarded her 1st place state finish by the Board of Trustees of the Georgia FFA Foundation.
