Three Carroll County Schools high school seniors are among just 177 named Georgia Scholars by the Georgia Department of Education, State School Superintendent Richard Woods has announced.
Carroll County Schools Georgia Scholars for 2024 are Papa Aye-Addo from Villa Rica High School, Dylan Mount from Central High School and Jackson Shirley from Temple High School.
GaDOE identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life through the Georgia Scholar program. Criteria are set by state law in eight individual categories. Each honoree receives a seal for his or her diploma.
“We are incredibly proud of what these Georgia Scholars have achieved during their high school careers,” Director of High Schools and Middle Schools Tim Gribben said. “This is one of the most prestigious and exclusive designations given in the state. We look forward to recognizing these graduating seniors and many more with astounding achievements next month in our five high schools.”
Georgia Scholars carried exemplary course loads during their four years of high school, performed excellently in all courses, successfully participated in interscholastic events within their schools and communities, and assumed leadership roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools.
Beyond their school involvement, Georgia Scholars must be registered to vote and show evidence of leadership in two community organizations outside of school. Click here to view the full criteria for the program.
“These 177 Georgia students have made our state proud through their stellar efforts in the classroom and in their communities,” Superintendent Woods said. “The Georgia Scholar designation is a recognition of their leadership and diligence. I wish them great success as they continue into their futures, and know they will continue to contribute to their communities and to our state.”
The Georgia Scholar program is coordinated by GaDOE in partnership with local districts and schools.
