University of West Georgia’s Townsend Center for the Performing Arts hosts two upcoming holiday shows in December:
Ballet Magnificat! – Light Has Come
Showing on Thursday, December 5, at 7:00 P.M., this full-scale, contemporary ballet production is a perfect way to kick off the holiday season. The two hour show is performed in two acts. Act I is a charming compilation of Christmas festivities, costume, dance, and music, such as “Winter Wonderland,” “Three Kings,” and “Joy To The World.” Act II focuses on an angel’s perspective of Christmas, an epic retelling of the Biblical Christmas story, and reflecting on the significance of Jesus Christ. Jiri Sebastian Voborsky created the choreography for the thirty-two professional dancers performing in the ballet.
Keith and Kathy Thibodeaux founded Ballet Magnificat in 1986, putting emphasis on the Christian faith through dance. The couple began embarking on the journey of fusing their commitment to God with their gift of theatrical talent, and they have since built a legacy. First started in Jackson, Mississippi, Ballet Magnificat performs globally in more than 40 nations. Furthermore, they conduct over 200 programs in the United States and internationally for ministry and dance.
Mandy Barnett’s Winter Wonderland
Showing on Tuesday, December 17, at 7:30 P.M., Grand Ole Opry member Mandy Barnett takes the stage, singing popular, nostalgic holiday tunes like “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” and more.
Mandy Barnett has an impressive music career and is among the best in Nashville. Barnett began singing at only five years of age, and at eighteen she was cast in ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE. After the magnificent success of the production, she continued her music career and released her own albums. Now, her success has earned her the titles of “the Judy Garland of our time” by American Songwriter and “Nashville Sound Chanteuse” by Music Row. Barnett captivates her audiences with an outstanding, award-winning voice. Several television shows have featured her holiday music, including the NYC Wall Street 100th Christmas Tree Lighting celebration.
Enjoy classic country Christmas music for a noteworthy holiday show by one of Nashville’s best.
