Owned and operated by college sweethearts Andy and Melissa Hill, Plaza Home Care is built on personal experience, professional expertise, and a passion for helping others. While attending the University of West Georgia in the early 2000s, Andy began working at what was then Plaza Discount Pharmacy and Home Care. In 2012, the Hills took over the business, maintaining and expanding its home equipment operations.
Melissa’s journey with Crohn’s disease gives the Hills a unique perspective on the needs of their customers. “Even being in the business for years and providing the equipment to customers, you truly don’t understand it until you’re on the other side of it,” Melissa shares. “Not only do we sell the product, we use the product.” This lived experience helps Plaza Home Care stand out as a provider that genuinely understands what its customers are going through.
Today, Plaza Home Care offers a wide variety of medical equipment and supplies, including lift chair recliners, portable oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines and supplies, medical beds, bathroom aids, power scooters and wheelchairs, standard wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, canes, orthopedic shoes, and much more.
They also provide rental equipment, which is especially helpful for short-term needs. “Someone who traveled into town and needs a wheelchair just for the weekend? We can help with that,” Andy says. “The biggest thing that sets us apart is that we want to be service-based — focused on customers’ needs and finding solutions to their problems, no matter how big or small.”
Plaza Home Care is equally dedicated to repairs and maintenance, both in-store and in-home. “This equipment often gives people modality, allowing them to live more productive lives,” Andy says. By maintaining and servicing the products they sell, Plaza Home Care helps customers use their equipment longer and with greater peace of mind.
A significant shift in the company’s mission came when they decided to stop accepting insurance — a move they believe was in their customers’ best interest. “Insurance policies can sometimes prevent people from getting what they really need,” explains Melissa. Instead, Plaza Home Care offers flexible in-house payment plans, and accepts Care Credit and PayPal Credit for larger purchases.
Customers are encouraged to visit the spacious showroom for a hands-on shopping experience, and customized shipping and delivery options are available throughout West Georgia and East Alabama.
Andy sums up their mission perfectly: “We can help you in the short-term, long-term, and we’ll be with you as long as you need.”
