Moonlight Garden Exhibit Shines Light on Unique Photo Process

Moonlight Garden, a new exhibit opening at the Carrollton Center for the Arts September 4, will focus on the work of photographer Mark Alan Francis.

Moonlight Garden presents Francis’ silver gelatin photo prints, made to emulate the changing landscape and the illusion of moonlight through a darkroom process called Mordançage. The process creates evocative and mysterious images that imbue the landscapes with a wide range of earth tone colors, while also causing tones to lift off the paper’s surface.

“I believe visitors will enjoy seeing the surreal and beautiful landscapes in Francis’ photographs and learning more about how they were created,” said Visual Arts Coordinator Marcella Kuykendall. “Not many people have heard of the Mordancage dark room process and I had fun learning about it myself.”

The center will host a free opening reception for the show, September 4, 5pm – 7pm.

Moonlight Garden runs through October 20.
