Kona Ice is bringing something exciting to Villa Rica, with a new headquarters now under construction in the Bay Springs area. It’s not just a warehouse, it’s a place built for the community, designed by a long-time local business owner who started this journey nearly two years ago. After navigating all the rules, regulations, and challenges of funding a project like this, his vision is finally coming to life.
The building will serve as the main storage hub for the fleet of Kona Ice trucks, Traveling Tom’s Coffee trucks, and eventually the Beverly Ann’s cookie and ice cream brand. But the real heart of the project is the café space at the front, which will offer Kona Ice, Traveling Tom’s Coffee, Beverly Ann’s cookies and ice cream, and a fun local twist with dirty sodas. Instead of full meals, the café will focus on sweet treats like cinnamon rolls, cookies, and pastries, perfect for pairing with a coffee in the morning or enjoying as an afternoon snack. There will also be a drive-thru for those on the go.
A 60’ x 60’ AstroTurf area will create an outdoor space for people to gather and unplug. It won’t have playground equipment, but it will feature giant games like Jenga, 3D Tetris, and cornhole, along with picnic tables where families and friends can sit and enjoy the outdoors. It’s meant to be a spot where people can step away from their screens, spend time together, and just be present.
Upstairs there will be a spacious party room, available for birthday parties and small events. The room will include a big screen for movie nights or presentations, and guests can enjoy treats like Kona Ice and custom cookie cakes during their celebrations.
Construction was approved earlier this year, and grading is nearly complete. The concrete is expected to be poured by January or February of 2026; and the building itself, a red iron metal structure, will be delivered and assembled once a builder is selected. If everything goes according to plan, the goal is to have the facility open and running towards fall of 2026.
Though Kona Ice is a franchise, owner Mike Mahar wants people to know this is a small, local operation. He started with just one truck 16 years ago and — while the business has grown — he still works it every day, investing his own time, money, and heart into the community. This new space is a personal project, funded with the help of an SBA loan and a lot of determination, built not by a big corporation, but by someone who lives here, works here, and truly cares about what this space can mean for Villa Rica.
The new headquarters isn’t just a business move, it’s creating a place where people can gather, relax, and enjoy something simple and sweet. From the café to the games outside, and the party room upstairs, it will truly bring joy, connection, and maybe a few extra sprinkles on top. To learn more about Kona Ice click here.
